This is conservation and adaptive re - use project of the old SMC building into New Sibu Heritage Centre. The SMC building was designed by an expatriate firm Swan and McLaren in 1960 and completed in 1963 as such, it is one of Sibu's historical and social landmarks. The contents of the existing museum at the Dewan Suarah was relocated to the upper floor of the Heritage Centre while the ground floor will be used for commercial outlets thereby generating income for the up - keep of the Centre.
